I think Shawn has hit the nail on the head with “where disagreement does not exist, unity is shallow”
Maybe arguments in the pursuit of God are an act of worship and should be incorporated into every weekly meeting.
Maybe the church body is supposed to be like a Union of Scabs.
Maybe, in the pursuit of ‘a church’ over ‘churches’, we should surround ourselves less with people who make us feel good and more with believers who are not leaders, or who are un-influential, or who we don’t like or who we fundamentally disagree with, or who rustle our prejudices.
Are compassionate people more easily offended than those who aren’t?
Shawn says that compassion is more important than being right or wrong, but what about people who disagree with this view?
Without commonality of values, what holds a church group together? This reminds me of Schmelzer’s conversation re bounded/centred set etc
